Erregenegaraia

‘Erregenegaraia Etxea’ is located in the heart of the old quarter of Lesaka, full of medieval palaces and towers made of stone and wood. From the house on the first floor you can see the ‘Beheko Plaza’ through which the river Onin flows, dividing the town in two. In the famous San Fermines of Lesaka, the Lesakarras dance on the stone walls that border the river, dances that the building has witnessed for hundreds of years. The renovated dwelling is located on the first floor of the building. The space had been untouched for fifty years, so the wooden structure was exposed and its condition and quality could be seen. From the outset it was proposed to the promoter of the project to carry out a complete intervention in wood and being faithful to the building, enhancing the original structure of oak wood. The client agreed and thanks to a collective effort of local carpenters, experienced masons and developers involved, wood is the main protagonist of this project.
The intervention in wood was completely made in wood: the walls and partition walls were made with wood framing, the floors are made of oak wood, the windows are wooden, the custom-made furniture is made of oak wood and the new balcony is also made of different types of wood, and the new balcony was also made of wood.
With the premise of the importance of being part of the old town of Lesaka, when the client suggested the need for an outdoor space in her home, the studio set out to design a balcony that would respect its location and the history of the building. The management was complicated because various governmental organs had to give permission to create it. On the one hand, Urak, due to the proximity of the river Onin, the town council of Lesaka and Habitabilidad de Navarra. After a long wait, the project was finally given the green light and a wooden balcony was built, respecting the aesthetics of the building and the essence of the old town.
